This Amish Baking Mix can be used in any recipe that calls for Bisquick or Krusteaz baking mix. It also makes a great gift for the holidays.
It’s super easy to mix up and if made with shortening can be stored in the pantry in an airtight container for 6 months. If made with butter it can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer for 3 to 6 months.
If you prefer baking mixes that are mixed with milk in recipes, try Homemade Bisquick Mix made without Cream of Tartar or Powdered Milk.
Sift the dry ingredients together, I do it twice to make sure it gets mixed well. Use a pastry blender to cut in the shortening or butter. You may also choose to use a food processor, but be careful not to over-blend.
To make 1 Dozen Biscuits – 3 cups baking mix and ¾ cup of water. Blend together just until moistened. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto a lightly greased or sprayed baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 8-10 minutes.
To make Pancakes – 3 cups baking mix, 1 egg, and 1½ cups water. Mix together. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.
